Workshop Series Provides Tools for Sustainable Future

Interested in pursuing a career in the energy efficiency or renewable energy sector? Do you want to help transform B.C.’s energy future? If yes, then the Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Energy Technology workshop series at Langara College, sponsored by City Green Solutions and Vancity Credit Union, may be for you.

Starting this fall, participants can choose from a wide range of workshops including: Wind Energy Development in BC, Solar Hot Water Heating, Architecture for Urban Independence, Community Energy Planning, Reducing Energy Consumption in Buildings, Energy Reduction through Integrated Design, Net Metering in Renewable Energy and Shifting from Knowing to Doing.

“British Columbia has world-class professional expertise in the sustainability sector, but there have been few focused educational opportunities that combine theory and the practical expertise of industry professionals,” says workshop instructor and City Green energy advisor, Philip Be’er.

Leaders in the field of energy efficiency and renewable energy teach this innovative workshop series. Participants have the opportunity to learn about current industry standards, practices and emerging business opportunities from independent consultants from the Pembina Institute, Prism Engineering, Aeolis Wind Energy Corporation, Vancouver Renewable Energy Cooperative, Taylor Munro Energy Systems, and Solace Energy, among others.

“This program is designed to inform the advocates, entrepreneurs and policy makers who are ready to promote our province’s abundant sustainable energy resources,” says Peter Sundberg, the Executive Director of City Green Solutions. “Creating a new focus on energy conservation and efficiency is the foundation for this workshop series.”

The Langara College program is currently functioning as a workshop series. As demand grows the program will become a certificate program to provide specialized training and capacity building to an emerging sustainable energy workforce.
